Title HTML Tag

Why is page title important?

Page title or <title> is used by search engines to understand the content of your page. It is also displayed in search results pages, on social media when you share content, and on the tab of web browsers when users browse your website. Each page should have a page title for SEO purposes and for an optimal user experience.

Page title best practice

  • This title should be descriptive and unique to each page.
  • Try to place the important and most relevant information first. If you want to insert a brand name, place this at the end of the title.

Title length

Title Length is an Onpage Hero custom dimension that shows you how long the <title> text is per page. The number displayed is the number of characters in the <title> tag.

Why is title length important?

Title length is important because you want your titles to display correctly on all devices and mediums. Too long and they may be cut off. In addition, if you do not optimize your titles for SEO then search engines may not display them. This can negatively affect your click-through rates and user experience.

Title length best practice

  • Keep titles between 50-60 characters long. Longer than this and your titles may get shortened or replaced with the dreaded … ellipsis.
